From the Wardens
September 7, 2024
Dear Trinity Parishioners,
It is with much joy that we announce that the Reverend Dr. Elenor Lucius “Andy” Anderson III has accepted the call of the Wardens, as affirmed by the Vestry, to Trinity Episcopal Church as Interim Rector. Father Andy will join us on a part-time basis for a few weeks, with his first service as celebrant on Sunday, September 22, and as preacher on Sunday, September 29. He will begin full-time in early October.
Dr. Anderson holds D. Min and M. Div degrees from Sewanee and the A.B degree in history from the University of Georgia. Additionally, he holds an MBA in finance from the Georgia State University. He is married (43 years) to Tippen “Tippy” Harvey Anderson, and they have 2 adult children, William Case Anderson and Sarah Harvey Anderson Hamilton. They have 3 young grandchildren: two who live in DC and one in Nashville. He and Tippy maintain a permanent home in Sewanee, TN, which they share with their Rat Terrier, Giovanni (Joe!).
Prior to serving as interim rector at St. Peter’s Church, Arlington, VA, and at The Falls Church Episcopal, Falls Church, VA, he served for 15 years as rector at the historic Church of the Nativity in Huntsville, AL. Previous positions were at Grace Church, Anderson, SC, and the Cathedral of St. Philip, Atlanta.
Dr. Anderson has valuable experience and expertise in interim ministry, visioning, administration, stewardship, preaching, and pastoral care. He describes his liturgical style as “warm and prayerful, yet dignified and orderly, offering well-orchestrated liturgy worshipping the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” He embraces contemplative spirituality practices focused on Centering Prayer. He seeks to focus on the transcendent, yet very near presence of God. His leadership style is described as collaborative, and he aspires to include as many people as possible in the planning, organizing and implementation of parish ministries.
Father Andy counts as his special interests community leadership, people, travel, Southern literature, the arts, especially classical music, food and cooking, and keeping fit through vigorous exercise.
From Senior Warden Bob Wood: “After a summer of interviewing, dining, tour-guiding, sermon-watching, and negotiating, Joel and I found a candidate we believe will be a blessing to Trinity as rector in this interim period. The Rev. Anderson is highly qualified, a delight to talk to, and very excited about everything he has seen and learned about Trinity.”
From Junior Warden Joel Harrison: “ I was privileged and quite blessed to have a significant amount of time with Father Andy during his 2-day visit here earlier in August. Aside from his obvious superb credentials and experience as both a rector and an interim rector, I found him to be possessed of a deep spirituality. It is that special quality that drew me in. I am delighted to welcome him to Trinity and to Indianapolis. I am confident he will be a blessing to our parish.”
Welcome Father Andy Anderson!
