Destin Wernicke is a graduate of the University of North Texas, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in jazz percussion and a Graduate Artist Certificate in organ performance. He is now pursuing a masters degree in organ performance at Indiana University, studying with Dr. Janette Fishell.

In March 2023, Destin won second prize in the graduate division of the William C. Hall Pipe Organ Competition in San Antonio, and in 2021, The Diapason named him one of the “20 under 30” in church music. In February of 2022, Destin’s composition for solo organ titled Celestial Fire was premiered at the Riverwalk International Organ Composition Competition, where he won the second-place prize. Destin was a semifinalist in the American Guild of Organists 2024 National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance, competing in San Francisco.

Destin has served as the organist for St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Denton from 2018-2021. He was also the Organ Scholar at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas in 2021 and held the organist position at Northridge Presbyterian Church in Dallas the following year.
