Beloved of God at Trinity–

I write to share that I have been elected as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Massachusetts at today’s diocesan convention in Boston. It’s hard even to write it, because of how much I will miss you all.

For the past eight years we have journeyed together as a faithful community knit in love and common mission. We have celebrated joys and sorrows, we have endured a pandemic, we have built new ministries to serve the vulnerable, we have praised God and been nourished by God’s sacraments and the love we share. Together. I am shaped by these and so many experiences, and I am forever grateful for the love and care you have shown me and my family throughout my time at Trinity.

While I am overjoyed at this new calling to the episcopate, I also feel the bittersweetness of this moment for us all. Trinity will forever hold a special place in my heart. You have prepared me for this responsibility through your witness of faith, your work for justice, and your openness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

There will be more communications in the days and weeks ahead as the contours of this transition process make themselves known. For now, just know that I love you, and I am grateful for you. Your incredible support and prayers throughout this discernment process has been tremendous in the last weeks. We are forever bound.

Gratefully, with love,
