Event Series Event Series: Fourth Friday Clapham Circles

Friday Clapham Circle

Fri May 26

The Clapham Circle meets at the Trinity Service Corps House on the last Friday of the month.

Join Demarius Walker and the Trinity Service Corps Fellows on the last Friday of each month for a discussion of various strains of Liberation Theology in the Christian Tradition, including the Clapham Sect and its work in England. Ultimately, we will explore how churches in the Anglican Tradition can serve as a positive force for large scale structural change, aiming to equip participants with the spiritual and theological grounding to transform unjust structures. Listen to a portion of Demarius’ sermon from this past Sunday to hear more about the Clapham Circle.

Parishioners are encouraged but not required to read Stephen Tomkins’ work The Clapham Sect: How Wilberforce’s Circle Transformed Britain. Light refreshments will be served. This discussion will help begin our exploration of how churches in the Anglican Tradition can serve as a positive force for large scale structural change. Subsequent meetings will focus on various strains of Liberation Theology in the Christian Tradition aiming to equip participants with the spiritual and theological grounding to transform unjust structures. While there will be some readings and videos provided before meetings, the Clapham Circle will be a support and dialogue group as well as a learning community which gathers to explore how our faith equips us to transform unjust structures of oppression.

Your registration helps the Service Corps Fellows prepare for a number of guests in their house. Monetary donations to help cover the cost of refreshments are welcome!
