Education for Ministry (EfM)

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a unique, four-year certificate program in theological education for lay persons, offered through the distance-learning program of the University of the South’s School of Theology. An EfM group consists of one or two mentors and up to 12 participants.

Based on small group study and practice,the depth of Christian tradition is brought into study and conversation through the exploration of Hebrew Scripture, New Testament, Church History, Theology, Worship, and Reflection. This year the group will also read Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman and The Four Vision Quests of Jesus by Steve Charleston. Click to download a full list of this year’s books.
