Horizons Is Going Places This Summer

by Shanna Martin, Executive Director of Horizons @ St. Richard’s

Each summer Horizons serves 150 students from low-income families, Pre-K – 8th grade, who attend local IPS and public charter schools. All of our grades for 2018 are full with waiting lists, demonstrating the great love for the program for the 80% of our students who are returning and the need for Horizons throughout the community.

At Horizons, we believe that kids learn best when learning is fun – which is why we incorporate so many opportunities for our students to experience the world around them in new and exciting ways. Thanks to the support of so many from Trinity and the St. Richard’s community, we raised enough money to purchase a new and larger bus to take our students on lots of learning adventures this summer.

We have plans to visit the Garfield Park Conservatory, Helmer Scientific Laboratory, 100 Acres, the Fall Creek Waterway, Marrott Park, Peace Learning Center, the Nature Conservancy, NIFS, Circle City Farms, and much more! And for the first time, we will be taking our 8th grade graduates to Waycross for what we hope will become an annual camping trip.

Horizons thrives with the help of strong partnerships and advocates in the community. We are so thankful for Trinity’s support of our program, and would love to take you on a thank you tour or talk with you about how you can help make a difference in the lives of our students.

2018 program dates are Wednesday, June 13th – Thursday, July 19th. Please reach out to us at 317-926-0425 ext. 130 or [email protected]esdragons.org.
